A Competency Development Program for Coach Certification

(Hybrid)

Skills for High-Impact Coaching

GISC’s Competency Development Program for Coach Certification is suitable for those new to coaching as well as for experienced coaches. Newly reconfigured in our hybrid format, the program will open and close with in-person sessions, and meet for two live-online sessions in between. The program consists of four sessions of theory, discussion and extensive coaching practice. Formal sessions are supplemented with additional opportunities for participants to practice their skills, share concepts with their peers, and work with a qualified faculty/ mentor coach one-on-one.

The program also includes a full day of interactive work to assist participants in establishing their own coaching practices. It meets the ICF requirement for live interaction instruction on core competencies and ethical standards. Successful completion of the program earns the GISC Coach Certificate and qualifies graduates to apply for an ICF credential.

The program will support participants in:

  • Establishing a coaching practice
  • Adding coaching to their current business model
  • Integrating coaching as a success factor in their daily leadership
  • Utilizing coaching as internal practitioners
  • Demonstrating ICF Core Competencies

Enrollment will be limited to allow for a strong participant-to-faculty/mentor coach ratio in this intimate program.

Successful completion of the coach training program will earn participants the GISC Coach Certificate. Interested GISC-certified graduates will be qualified to apply for International Coach Federation (ICF) credentials.

There is no prerequisite to the course. However, this program requires an application, which can be found on our website, as well as a $250 application fee that will be applied toward tuition.

Program Requirements

To satisfactorily graduate and receive certification as a GISC-Certified Coach, you must complete the following requirements:

  • Complete four consecutive Gestalt Coach Training Sessions (GCTS)

  • Create a Coach Development Plan (CDP), approved by a faculty/mentor coach. The CDP will outline your developmental goals and steps to meet these goals. The CDP will evolve as you move through the program

  • Complete required reading and reporting

  • Complete 50 hours of individual client coaching outside the training program. A log must be kept outlining the client’s name, dates and time

  • Complete 10 hours of observed coaching by a faculty/mentor coach. The practicums in the program will provide opportunity for this requirement

  • Complete and submit three taped individual coaching sessions (of 30 to a maximum of 45 minutes).

  • Develop a research paper (of not more than 10 double-spaced pages) on a coaching topic of your choice. The topic must be discussed with and approved by the faculty/mentor coach assigned to you

  • Participate in one monthly group conference call with your support/learning group

  • Participate in one monthly call with your faculty/mentor coach to discuss your development plans and challenges. One of your support/learning group calls will be attended by your faculty mentor coach. This will satisfy your faculty mentor coaching call for the month the mentor coach participates.

  • Demonstrate competency of coaching in practicums

  • Create a learning portfolio documenting your learning and accomplishments during the program

  • Successfully complete final written exam and final oral exam (in the form of a recorded and evaluated coaching session).

Attendance: Full attendance at all four Gestalt Coach Training Sessions (November, December, February and April) is required in order to graduate. Participants must make up any classroom time missed for illness or personal reasons through discussions with assigned learning partner and/or arrangements with and approval by the program faculty.

Feedback and Progress Reports:

Participants receive ongoing feedback during the practicum portion of the training sessions. Participants can also review segments of their recorded coaching sessions with their Mentor Coach for feedback during monthly mentor coaching meetings. Participants will also receive three written evaluations of coaching competencies during the program to support ongoing skills development.

"Already a seasoned professional, I moved to a new area and faced many challenges adjusting to changes in my personal and professional life. The Skills for Influential Leadership class helped me reevaluate the value and skills I bring to the table. I left the three-day program with renewed interest in collaboration and problem solving as well as a renewed sense of confidence. I can’t wait to go back to another program."

Sheila Hoogeboom, MEd, Director of Business & Credit Programs

"This program was a big help for me. I learned a lot about myself and several simple tools that improved my ability to work with and lead others on my team as well as my clients. I learned how to recognize and set aside some of my own assumptions about people and the challenges we were facing. This has allowed me to see new opportunities and solutions for moving my organization forward.”
